Nottingham could experience the presence of Storm Barney on Tuesday afternoon as strong winds sweep across the country.

Heavy rain is predicted throughout the day with the worst of the weather expected around 4pm.

The Met Office have issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning for rain however it is the severe gales that may cause more problems with the city potentially seeing gusts of 60-70mph.

Forecasters have said to be prepared for an unsettling 24 hours with possible fallen trees, power cuts and some transport delays.

Despite this temperature’s will be mild for this time of the year, around 14° C.

A BBC weather reporter said: “It will start a little bit grey but it won’t be long before heavy showers creep in across the East Midlands.

“Storm Barney will make his presence felt.”

Overnight there will be further showers although they will become isolated after midnight.

Arriving from the Atlantic, Barney is the second storm of the season following the disruption of Storm Abigail last week.
