Residents were encouraged to get moving as part of an Active Communities open day at Nottingham Tennis Centre.

The University Boulevard centre saw people have a go at tennis and table tennis with the expertise of the centre’s coaches in their fun, free sessions.

This is only the second time the event was held but following on from an unexpected turnout today, there is hope it could be held monthly.

Suzanne Garnett, Event Organiser at the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), said: “We invited all kinds of community groups from Nottingham to come down to play some table tennis and tennis.”

“This is only the second time that we’ve done it and we were unexpectedly quite busy today so we’re hoping to be making this a monthly event.”

With the centre hosting the likes of Johanna Konta and Dan Evans this summer at the AEGON Open Nottingham, people are being encouraged to get involved in the action.

She added: “We have the AEGON Open tournament next month which is a WTA and ATP tournament, and we have Dan Evans, Heather Watson and Johanna Konta playing down here next month.

“Hopefully we can get these guys to get down and watch some tennis.”
